+ support
Shifty Chicken Shed have been playing together for around three years now.
In that time they have gone from playing small local pub gigs, to festivals and supporting some of the most
cult bands in history. They include Half man Half Biscuit, The Lonnie Donnegan Band, John Otway,
The Blockheads and Dr Feelgood.
Shifty have a mission.....to be original, quirky and comedic, and whilst they don't take themselves too seriously,
they do however, take their music earnestly.
This rythymn and blues rooted, psychadelic storytelling group of musicians/friends from The Welsh Marches have many a string to their bow.
The band all play more than one instrument and make use of them all on stage and in the recording room.
Not happy with the drop down genre boxes, Shifty created their own...."Charity Shop Pop."
Welcome to the washboard, stomping, horny, eccentric sound of Shifty Chicken Shed.
Once described as a cross between Gong and Louis Armstrong and "the most unusual, interesting, weird bands to ever be seen."
Shifty Chicken Shed are highly original. Writing, recording and producing all of their music totally on a DIY basis.
Influences come from many decades and types of music. From Leadbelly and Lee Hazelwood to The Blockheads, Sly and The Family Stone, Tom Waits for sure, Dexys Midnight Runners, Lonnie Donnegan and The Fall to name but a few. A real melting pot of ideas and energy.
"TOWN" Shiftys debut album is launched late summer 2012.
(Innes), "Living in Oswestry gives ample opportunity for inspiration. This first album tells tales of brumous market town wibble wobble. We only need to have a handful of pints on a Sunday afternoon and before we know it, another song is born".
This gig at The Robin 2 is the first gig to kick off their 2013 Feather Duster Tour. They chose The Robin 2 because
they love the venue, the people are great, the beer is cheap and the kebab house accross the road is one of the best!
Shifty Chicken Shed are:-
Ed "Rivers" Roberts on drums, Mikey Hopkins on Moog and bass, Dean Murray Newton on vocals and percussion.
Innes Reid on slide guitar, bass and vocals, Deborah Harris on alto, tenor and baritone saxophones and vocal sand percussion.
They look forward to seeing you.
